Breathtaking – The Master Prime Lenses

The Master Prime Lenses finally realized a cinematographer's dream: lenses that are both fast and have an optical performance surpassing that of all standard speed primes. The Master Prime Lenses open up new creative opportunities, making shots possible that would have been considered impossible before

  • 16 high speed prime lenses (T1.3)
  • 12 - 150 mm
  • Higher resolution & contrast
  • No geometric distortion
  • Dramatically reduced flare
  • Virtually no breathing

Quotes from DOPs

I've got to say that the Master Prime Lenses blow me away; they're just so fantastic. Even at T1.3 they look sharp; I remember in the old days when we shot with the original Zeiss Super Speeds, they were T1.3 lenses as well, but you generally had to shoot them at T2 or T2.8, and they looked better at T4. But these Master Prime Lenses look as good to me at T1.3 as they do at T2.8. There's something about the quality of the out of focus backgrounds that I just love. The bokeh is so -buttery and beautiful; it's almost addictive. You'll be shooting on a 25mm and find yourself putting ND filters in front of it -because you want those out of focus backgrounds. I just fell in love with the look.

CRUSOE

I chose the 14 mm Master Prime Lens because it delivers high-performance close focusing, good sharpness and contrast corner-to-corner, and provides a wide angle of view without significant field curvature or chromatic aberrations. Another important feature I was looking for was to have a fully sealed lens. Working in humid environments and changing temperatures I wanted to avoid internal fogging of the lens; this was the major deciding factor when considering equivalent lenses from another manufacturer. Lastly, I wanted to be able to have the lenses supported, tested and serviced locally. After visiting the ARRI facility nearby, I was entirely satisfied with the level of service on offer.
