ARGO and LIFE OF PI win big at Oscars®

ARGO took home Best Picture honors as well as Editing and Adapted Screenplay, while LIFE OF PI was awarded Best Director, Cinematography and VFX and Original Score Oscars®. Both were lit and shot using ARRI equipment. ARGO used a hybrid of film and digital: ARRICAM, ARRIFLEX 435, 235 & ALEXA. LIFE OF PI was shot in stereoscopic on ALEXA using Cameron Pace 3D rigs. This marks the second year in a row the cinematography and visual effects Academy Awards have gone to productions captured on ALEXA.

AMOUR, also shot on ALEXA, won the Best Foreign Film category.

Oscar nominees rely on ARRI

Out of nine Best Picture nominees for the Academy Awards this year, seven were shot using ARRI cameras: AMOUR, LIFE OF PI and ZERO DARK THIRTY were captured digitally with ARRI ALEXA; LES MISÉRABLES and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK on 35 mm with ARRICAM; ARGO utilized a combination of both ALEXA and ARRICAM while BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD chose Super 16 with the ARRIFLEX 416 and SR3. Additionally, many of these productions relied on lighting equipment from ARRI.
